Maggie & Ben - 23 May 2009

Only a short selection for me this week..... I had the very fun job of second shooting Maggie & Ben’s wedding for Steven Murray on the 23rd of May.

Maggie has worked and assisted under Steven for something like an eternity and I have had the pleasure of getting know Maggie quite well over this time. It was great for me to take a back-seat to all the formal stuff and just focus on some of the candids and have a bit of laugh along the way!!!

Maggie was a bit of a star – I couldn’t believe how stunning she looked getting out of that car!!! FYI – we had a tough job trying not to cry, good one MAGGIE MOO!!!

The Chapel training shoot with Clint & Anita - May 2009

Last week super-duper nice couple Clint & Anita took the day off to get all dressed up again and pose for 5 of us Chapel Photographers (www.chapelphotographers.com.au).

Steven from Creative Image Photography had only photographed the happy couple about 4 weeks before we made them do it all again for a mini-workshop around Canberra. Steven and I ran through our styles and the way we approach our weddings. We spent some time discussing posing, reading the light, how to communicate with your couples and generally just encouraging photogs to have a bit of fun along the way.

It was a great success for everyone but most of all a huge thank you to Clint & Anita for being so generous with their time and also for baking very yummy treats for us!!! YOU GUYS ARE STARS!!!

Here are a few that I managed to do on the day.....looking forward to Friday for some more show and tell

Some of Steven's techniques

....then looking surprised that it ACTUALLY worked

AIPP ACT/NSW Professional Photography awards 2009

Well it was the set that didn’t quite get there......

A couple of weeks ago the ACT/NSW combined professional photography awards were held in Sydney for the AIPP. Once again I had the great opportunity to judge alongside some of Australia’s most amazing photographers and each year I learn more and more from these amazing creative professionals. It was a mixed weekend, lots of highs, a few lows and even a not so fun health scare to mix things up a bit!!

For the second year running I received runner-up wedding photographer of the year - last year by one point, this year by 0.1 point, but who's counting! Difficult when it gets that close but the work some of our ACT photographers produced this year was so off the charts (scoring higher than NSW in some categories). I was just glad to up there with the best of them.

Below is my wedding selection – scoring 2 silver distinctions, 2 silvers - 87,86,83 and 82. I also did not so bad in the portrait category scoring another 4 silver awards.

Mark & Tina - 9 May 2009

I traveled down (or should I say up) to Nowra on the 9th of May to photograph to very lovely Mark & Tina.

Talk about some amazing places to photograph. We all had a great time exploring the surrounding areas and managed to find the most brilliant little hidy hole right on sunset!!

Tammie & Serg - 2 May 2009

I can't believe how late this post is (details of that will surface soon)... On the 2nd of May I had the great pleasure of photographing Tammie & Serg. It was a pretty perfect day for 2 wonderful people. Thank you both for your easy-going approach to the photos - I think it allowed us all to be relaxed and enjoy the shoot that much more!! Hope you're enjoying that fabulous honeymoon in Europe!
